Heman lived up to his namesake when he rounded up the field and blew them away at Doomben on Wednesday, much to the delight of the big crowd of Qld Rogues on-course to cheer him home.
For the record Heman was named after the superhero character from the Masters of the Universe cartoon franchise, which is part of several animated television series, comic books, and a toy line.
The superhero character is characterized by his superhuman strength and your very own Heman showed plenty of those qualities in overcoming a bad barrier to win by going away from the field.
HEMAN HAS PULLED UP WELL
Winning anywhere is hard and yes it was only a Class 1 at Doomben on a Wednesday but look at the authority of the win.
Heman was bought as a tried horse for the Qld Rogues and was having only his third start for the team and the Munce stable.
Despite losing a front shoe and picking up a black eye Heman has pulled up well and is now set to go on with the job according to trainer Chris Munce.
“Look he was back in grade and class wise had a bit on the field, but his win was better than an average Wednesday win.
“He also lost a shoe as well, so to come through that with his tender feet shows he has come a long way from his first effort for us” Munce said.
“The more I asked of him late, the more he gave me” Jockey Justin Huxtable
LATE JOCKEY CHANGE
Heman also had a late jockey change on the morning of the race with Nikita Beriman becoming indisposed and Justin Huxtable. Both are strong riders and no one was complaining after the race about Huxtable’s patience and sense of timing.
“He bounces nice, but once his feet hit the turf he’s in no hurry. It’s a credit to him that I think you just have to let him relax and if he relaxes he will give you more late.
“The more I asked of him late the more he gave me.
“We had a terrific run, we saved ground on the corner and gave him plenty of room on straightening and that was the key.
“I thought it was a very good win and he’ll improve a lot from that” Huxtable said.
WHATS NEXT
There’s no lofty ambitions at this stage for Heman. Chris and Corey will continue to manage him and search for tracks with some cushion allowing Heman to stretch out fully and show his best.
“I suggest we go to the races again in a few weeks time, preferably on a Saturday and there’s no doubt he’s up to that grade and while he’s in good form there’s no reason we shouldn’t push on and hopefully keep on improving which I think he will.
The win puts the Qld Rogues ahead of the Vic Husslers in the race for $10,000 Month 3 Cash Prize.
Go you good thing!
