Vic Husslers get ready for what is set to be a massive Spring with Lethal Thoughts being set for the $3 million Caulfield Guineas and who knows maybe even the Victoria Derby.
There were smiles all round as owners in the Vic Husslers had nothing but admiration for Lethal Thoughts who finished just a length from the winner Sheeza Belter in the $1 million Group 1 JJ Atkins at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Trainer Ciaron Maher quickly declared “He’ll have a short break and as a three-year-old, every race you’ll be racing in will be a Group or a Listed race so it’s going to be a lot of fun” Ciaron said.
The JJ Atkins itself was a tale of woe all brought on by drawing barrier 18 when the marbles fell. Jockey John Allen was always going to be needing a miracle from out there, but there was none forthcoming.
Lethal Thoughts made matters worse by missing the start just a touch and was trapped three and four wide for the rest of the journey. Despite the torrid run Lethal Thoughts just kept attacking the line to finish a narrow sixth.

With only two starts under his belt going into the JJ Atkins, Lethal Thoughts was the least experienced of any of the runners and while he had been based in Sydney working that way of going for an entire preparation he clearly was never comfortable.
“I reckon if it was the Melbourne way of going he probably wins to be honest, he was never comfortable the whole way,” jockey John Allen said. Click below to see the whole post race interview with Johnny.
Trainer Ciaron Maher was surprised by the waywardness of Lethal Thoughts but is clearly looking forward to Spring and tackling the big Group 1s.
“He’s got a bright future, he’s very raw and to do what he did when he wasn’t comfortable is just sensational,” Ciaron said. See what else Ciaron had to say by clicking below
Don’t just believe us, respected Melbourne form analyst Mick Sharkie was at Eagle Farm and declared on Melbourne radio the horse he wanted to follow out of the JJ Atkins was Lethal Thoughts.
“He jumped from barrier 16, had absolutely no luck, a 2-year-old having only his third start, going from Victoria to Queensland and running 6th in a Group 1, he could be a Derby horse”
