From Will Hayes: “He’s an absolute gentleman in the stables and his build-up into this has been good. His jump outs have been pleasing.
“He has a tendency to be slow away from the barriers and that’s why he finds himself having to run on. It was a good ride from Jaylah. She came to the fence and he showed a good turn-of-foot first-up.”
From Ben Hayes: “He really deserved it. Last prep he raced so well all prep. He got beaten small margins and didn’t get a win.
“So we put him away with our tails between our legs and for him to come out and win like that – great ride by Jaylah. Hopefully he’s in for a good prep now.
“A very good first-up run by the big boy. He loves dry tracks and today he got perfect racing conditions with the northerly. He’s a horse that always steps slow and he did that today. Jaylah rode him patiently and the runs came at the right time.”
WINNING JOCKEY: JAYLAH KENNEDY
“There was no specific plan. He’s not the best out of the barriers sometimes and he was like that again today. I thought I was going to end up on the back of the favourite and I got pushed in. He was first-up today and I was happy to be a bit more patient and wait for things to open up.
“It parted like the Red Sea and he went through. It felt very much like a track gallop but he was really explosive to the line and he’s in for a good prep.”
