It’s a fact of life that all winning streaks come to an end and that was the case for owners in The Racing League.
After the euphoria (justifiably so) of not three but four straight winners it was always going to be tough to keep the run going.
On the back of the success of Bellinger, Helluva Barty, The Big Goodbye and Cool Jakey there was a lot of pressure on The Sherpa at Lismore last Friday.
On a Heavy surface, The Sherpa appeared to travel but gave little in the straight. He’s now been nominated for Sunday, March 5 at Grafton.
While at Morphettville, Team Captain drew badly in barrier 14 in the Lord Reims 2800m and it never got much better after that. The Captain was trapped wide for the entire journey but in saying that he was still a touch disappointed.
“He was four wide around the turn just as everyone else was accelerating. He seems to have pulled up well and I think we go on to the Adelaide Cup,” trainer Matt Cumani said.
“I don’t think there’s any chance he won’t get a run in the Adelaide Cup so we will push on with that in two weeks’ time,” Cumani added.
The Cup is on March 13 at Morphettville and we all know the 3200m is Team Captain’s pet distance.
