Pierro Champion Racehorse and National Icon
In the world of Thoroughbred racing, the name Pierro is synonymous with excellence, speed, and grace. This talented racehorse, born in 2009, has captured the hearts of fans around the world and cemented his place in the annals of Australian racing history.
Pierro burst onto the scene as a two-year-old, winning the prestigious Golden Slipper Stakes at Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens in 2012 at odds of $6.50. This victory marked the beginning of an incredible career that would see him win five Group 1 races, earn over $4 million in prize money & claim the coveted ‘triple crown’ as a 2 year old, behind this talented racehorse was a masterful trainer who helped turn him into a champion. That trainer was none other than the legendary Gai Waterhouse.
Pierro proved himself to be a versatile and talented runner, excelling over a range of distances from 1200 meters to 1600 meters. In 2013 he was the highest rated sprinter in the world.
What sets Pierro apart from other champion racehorses is not just his stunning record of wins which was 11 wins from 14 starts (79% win strike rate), but also his effortless and graceful running style. With his powerful stride, effortless speed, and silky smooth acceleration, he made even the most difficult races look easy.
Off the track, Pierro was known for his friendly and gentle personality, endearing himself to fans and racing enthusiasts alike.
In 2016, Pierro was retired from racing and sent to stud, where he has been highly successful as a sire. His offspring have won numerous races, including four Group 1 winning progeny, and he has quickly established himself as one of the most sought-after stallions in Australia.
Pierro will always be remembered as one of the greatest racehorses in Australian history. With his impressive record of wins, stunning running style, and endearing personality, he has left an indelible mark on the sport of Thoroughbred racing and will be remembered as a national icon for generations to come.
