HAPPY NEW YEAR TRL OWNERS

Jan 6, 2023

We trust everyone had a great Christmas/New Year full of winners.

This Saturday, TRL was due to have two runners Helluva Barty and Bellinger.

However, Helluva Barty, unfortunately, came up with barrier 19 for the Magic Millions Maiden on the Gold Coast with trainers Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted thinking it would not be a great experience for the horse and have scratched in preference for Doomben on Wednesday.

The Vic Husslers warhorse Bellinger goes to battle at Sandown while the NSW Tycoons have The Sherpa slotted to return at Ballina next Friday.

UPCOMING RUNNERS:

  • Bellinger, January 7 – Sandown
  • Helluva Barty, January 11 – Doomben
  • The Sherpa, January 12 – Gunnedah or January 13 – Ballina
  • Cool Jakey, January 16 – Barrier Trial Warwick Farm
  • The Big Goodbye, January 21 – Doomben

Good luck to all Owners and now let’s check out the major chances of your TRL Trainers this Saturday.

THE HAYES CAMP TO RING THE “BELL”

“Bellinger’s work on Tuesday was an impressive piece of work, he’s on the fresh side just like last start where he ran so well”, Ben Hayes said.

Bellinger is an $11 chance on Saturday at Sandown, he’s in great order and just needs a little bit of luck from barrier 10 with Michael Dee to ride.

BET: Bellinger  – Each Way (Sandown R.6)

BET: Independent Road – Each Way (Sandown R.7)

HELLUVA BARTY CHANGE OF PLANS

As you could tell from his Deagon barrier trial win, Helluva Barty is a horse with tremendous promise and with an eye on the future a decision was made to scratch him from this Saturdays  Magic Millions Maiden on the Gold Coast in preference for Doomben on Wednesday.

While it’s disappointing to miss such a lucrative race, trainers Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted believe it’s in the best interest of the horse and the owners to look after him, give him a good experience first-up and take him through his grades.

There is plenty of upside with Helluva Barty and he’ll be hard to beat at Doomben on Wednesday.

WATERHOUSE/BOTT ON THE COAST

Like most trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott have been on the Gold Coast inspecting yearlings in preparation for the Magic Millions Sale.

The world’s best jockey (James McDonald) is also on the Goldie and combines with Tulloch Lodge on Just Glamorous (Race 3) who’s a promising 2yo filly who hit the line extremely well last start.

At Rosehill, Vreneli (Race 6) is the horse to beat, winning last start and has a very good third-up record. While Star Sparks (Race 8) has already been well supported.

WAUGH ENJOYS THE FESTIVE SEASON

The purple patch of winners looks set to continue for trainer Kim Waugh.

True Crime (Race 3) is resuming, has been well supported in early markets and is very good fresh.

BET: True Crime – Each Way (Rosehill R.3)

CIARON MAHER MACHINE ROLLS ON

The Maher/Eustace stable is sure to be one of the biggest purchasers next week at the Magic Millions Sale, if not the biggest!

At Rosehill they have two great chances, one at big odds.

Semena (Race 2) is a progressive 3yo filly only beaten by the stablemate last start.

While Whatafox (Race 5) at $16 already in from $20 is well and truly over the odds.

PRICE IS ALL SASSED UP

Let’s get off to a great start at Sandown with the Mick Price/Michael Kent Jnr trained All Sassed Up (Race 1).

A nice 3yo filly, who looked great in winning a jump out and Jamie Kah rides.

MOODY ON FIRE

No one enjoys the party season quite like Peter Moody and the stable has been firing on all cylinders over the festive break.

Liberated Girl (Race 4) looks to be his best at Sandown, she’s tight in the market but is now third-up and just has to run a strong 1600m.

BET: Liberated Girl –  Win (Sandown R.4)

FREEDMANS ON A WINNING ROLL

With 7 winners from their last 19 starters the Richard and Will Freedman stable is in rare territory.

I’m sticking with On The Lead (Race 5) at Sandown. It’s a $13 chance and I reckon it’s been racing with no luck.

BET: On The Lead – Each Way (Sandown R.5)

GOLLAN BELIEVES LATAKIA WILL BOUNCE

Latakia won brilliantly first-up and was disappointing last time out at Eagle Farm.

She’s a talented 3yo filly that can bounce back.

BET: LATAKIA- Each Way (Gold Coast R.6)

Good luck and good punting!
