Talk about getting your heart racing, well for owners in the Vic Husslers team on Saturday their pulse rate was certainly hitting new levels with Lethal Thoughts contesting the $3 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas.
There is nothing like the emotional roller coaster which is racehorse ownership particularly when it’s a Group 1 in front of a huge crowd at a premier track.
And when the horse you own hits the lead at the 300m mark in a $3 million race the blood pressure gauge is at bursting point.
That was the story on Saturday at Caulfield, with ‘Lethal’ giving a kick on the corner and just for a moment he looked like the “dream would become a reality”.
Unfortunately, something went amiss “as if he wanted to run the whole race on one breath” according to jockey Michael Dee.
He faded to finish down the track, with trainer Dave Eustace puzzled what went wrong. “We will have him scoped and make a decision on how we proceed later in the week,” Eustace said.
Despite the outcome, Husslers have now witness Lethal Thoughts contest two Group 1 events in just six career starts and those on track enjoyed the day but most importantly lived a moment they will never forget.
The result is always important but it’s all about the build-up, that sense of anticipation, the thrill of hitting the front and the ‘what if’, ‘imagine if we win’, ‘I never thought I would own a runner in a Group 1” well to be honest most people don’t.
Racehorse ownership, the ultimate reality show, it’s all about the journey.
It’s been an incredible ride so far with plenty of great moments to come.
