Joe Pride, unquestionably one of the most respected horsemen in Australian racing, seems to have an uncanny knack of unlocking the best in his horses. It is the privilege of not many to own a horse in this camp.
With a deeply ingrained belief that happy horses make the best race horses, perhaps this talks to Joe’s secret sauce. It also may talk to where he is headed with Penso A Lei, a lightly raced daughter of So You Think that Joe trains for thousands of owners in The Racing League.
After a luckless run two weeks ago at Warwick Farm, trainer Joe Pride thinks that Penso A Lei is now ready to win. Her trainer has quite the opinion of this filly, and thinks Penny can prove that on the track in her next start which is why he is targeting The Mayor’s Cup at Gosford over 1900m on New Years eve.
As a daughter of So You Think, Penso A Lei is likely suited to distances from a mile upward. This will be Penso A Lei’s 4th run of this preparation after she kicked off her campaign over 1200m at Wyong, finishing a gallant 4th over the unsuitable distance. She then stepped out to 1400m where she again finished off strong, before her frustratingly luckless run over the mile last start at Warwick Farm.

This is why we love trainers like Joe Pride being involved in TRL, he is so focussed on giving Penso A Lei every possible chance at getting the win. We thank Joe and his team for putting so much time into finding her the right race, and hopefully it will pay dividends for owners!
