As a wise man once said “It’s not the size of horse in the fight but the size of the fight in the horse” and let me tell you The Big Goodbye certainly knows how to “fight”.
The Queensland Rogues owners again cheered themselves hoarse at Eagle Farm this past Saturday (October 16) as the horse they own “gave his all” only to be nutted right on the line.
The Big Goodbye got a bump on the home turn and struggled to get some clean air in the early stages of the straight before producing another herculean effort to run the winner to the most slender of margins.
Trainer Rob Heathcote toyed with the idea of firing in a protest but decided “the interference wasn’t severe enough to stand a chance in the steward’s room”. Watch the replay below:
That’s three seconds in three starts for the Queensland Rogues with Rob keen to push forward and use Leah Kilner in the saddle and her 2kg claim.
“Leah Kilner is riding very well and using her 2 kgs claim at his next run can work well for us.
The 30th October has a class 3 plate of $55k where he will get the 59 kgs so 2 off for Leah Kilner makes it very winnable, or on Melbourne Cup day, there is a benchmark 75 1200, both at Eagle Farm so he will get 56.5/57 kgs so again, 2 off will see him very hard to beat. We will nominate and accept both and assess our best option.
I love his will to compete, we have just bumped into 3 pretty decent horses in his 3 runs but his turn is around the corner. He is a great little QUEENSLANDER!!”
Go Rogues!
