There’s nothing quite like some fresh young talent joining any sporting team and the Vic Husslers will be ecstatic with the purchase of an exciting filly by much sought after sire Per Incanto to their team.
Your latest recruit is from across the Tasman but let’s not hold that against her.
She caught the eye of leading Melbourne trainer duo Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr at the Karaka sales earlier this year and was purchased for $150,000 in the ring.
While most would think Kiwi horses are staying types this filly looks the opposite, yet it is still very early days but the signs are promising.
CRANBOURNE JUMP OUT
Price is a renowned judge and trainer of two-year-olds; his record in the Blue Diamond, including training the trifecta in the Blue Diamond Prelude in 2003 speaks to his success with juveniles.
And while the filly caught his eye during the parades and in the ring at Karaka it was how she flowed over the ground in her second practice jump-out that really made him sit up and take notice.
“I bought her as a yearling in New Zealand and she has just developed and developed.
“She’s a sprinting-medium type filly who has done everything right at Cranbourne. She has a lovely temperament.
“Look for a filly who is still in the early learning stages. I was surprised by how natural she was when she had a little practice jump out which you can see for yourself on video.
“She’s got a lovely bright attitude to training and has coped well with the work physically and mentally.”

THE BAND IS BACK TOGETHER
There’s a number of reasons to be excited about this latest acquisition for the Vic Husslers.
“Firstly, it is wonderful for the Husslers to be back in the Price/Kent camp.
This is one of Australia’s best-performing stables and despite so often competing at the top level of Australian Racing, this stable possesses an impressive winning Strike Rate of 16%.” TRL CEO Steve Brown said.
From a bloodstock point of view, Steve has always been an admirer of what Per Incanto has achieved in a short space of time in the barn.
“Per Incanto is a sire of 7 Group 1 winners. Commencing off a moderate service fee of only a few thousand dollars, he is a stallion who has achieved so much, tellingly from the bottom up meaning he wasn’t getting the best mares to start his stud career but he is now.
“Some of his progeny to recall would be the $3m earner and winner of the VRC Newmarket in Roch ’N’ Horse, the 2023 G1 Blue Diamond winner in Little Brose, and who can forget the only horse to ever be scratched on the morning of the Everest in Lost and Running, what a ride he was for his owners.
“We did attempt to purchase for the Husslers a 50% stake, however only 40% was available,” Brown said.
That means Husslers will enjoy 100% of the fun but receive 40% of the prize money which corresponds with points on the TRL ladder.
THE PRICE IS RIGHT
It is extremely early in the career of this horse to be making wild predictions, but everything about your filly is screaming that she is a sprinter and may be an early comer.
“I think she will just get better and better with every prep. I think that she is a sprinter and that her page influences staying pedigree also, I think it’s a nice little mixture.
“The real Per Incanto’s are 1400 or 1600m types but just looking at her physique she’s a sprinting filly,” Mick Price said.

FINAL WORD
All care and checks have been put into the purchase of your filly, the one thing that is always the great unknown is the outcome, but that’s the racing game.
“Whether it’s a yearling, a tried horse or a horse at jump out stage as per this filly, one never knows what the future will deliver.
“We do however love what this filly is showing, her proven sire line and so too does Mick Price.” Steve Brown said.
“Good luck with her, I reckon she’s an excellent prospect and it’s great to have the Vic Husslers colours on a nice filly” Price concluded.
