It is a weekend full of promise for all owners in TRL with A Second, A Third & the Promise of More to Come.
Don’t get me wrong, winning is always the ultimate aim but it was a satisfying weekend with your three TRL runners across the 3 States.
PARDON MY FRENCH – THIRD PLACE
It’s been a long time coming and there was the shock scratching at Geelong the previous week, but VIC Husslers’ 3-year-old Pardon My French certainly caught the eye with a third placing on debut at Moe on Sunday.
The stable was pleased, the jockey was pleased and most of the owners were excited about what lies ahead for your daughter of Almanzor.
Jockey Thomas Stockdale was extremely happy with the effort.
“Lovely horse, she’s nice and quiet and does everything you ask of her.
“She began well, just wasn’t able to muster the early speed, ended up 3 back the fence and travelled nice and strong throughout and went through her gears well. It wasn’t until the last furlong that she started to get warm which tells me she is looking for further distance to run over, possibly a 1400m.” Stockdale said.
In a further bonus for Vic Husslers, Pardon My French appeared to relish the Heavy going at Moe and with the tracks expected to remain rain-affected throughout the Winter Months, that’s good news.
The stable are keeping the options open but will look to step her up in distance maybe in another fortnight.

CAXTON LASS – BUMPS INTO A GOOD ONE
Your trainer Rob Heathcote keeps telling you that Caxton Lass can gallop and she can, but she had to play second fiddle to another nice horse in Incessant at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.
“Caxton” was well drawn in four, but jockey Martin Harley chose not to ride the speed but took a sit. She didn’t appear to love being restrained and was also flushed four wide on the bend. It’s a long straight at Caloundra.
Jockey Martin Harley and Assistant trainer Jarred Coetzee were delighted with the effort first-up.
“Fantastic return from your girl Caxton.
“She has run terrific and has pulled up having a decent blow. She will Improve off this run and there is no doubt you will be having a lot of fun with her this prep.” Coetzee said.
“There is a 1200m Maiden at Doomben on Wednesday 26th June or a 1000m Maiden the following Wednesday 3rd July at Eagle Farm.
We will keep owners informed closing to the date.
SOMETHING DIFFERENT WITH COOL JAKEY
Trainer Joe Pride warned the NSW Tycoons not to expect too much from Cool Jakey at Rosehill Gardens last Saturday.
Against his normal pattern of going forward Joe’s pre-race report stated that Cool Jakey would be ridden back by Jay Ford and allowed to run home – and that’s exactly how it played out.
“His forte is to roll and you’ll get a different result from him but it was worth a try” Jockey Jay Ford said.
Joe has no concerns with Cool Jakey going forward.
“It’s a matter of building into the preparation and having a longer campaign, he got cut short last time he only had 3 runs and this time I want to get a nice long prep out of him and you can see he has a stack of improvement in him.
“I will probably look to put the blinkers back on him next start and we will see a significant improvement and hopefully we will be able to stretch him out to a mile”. Joe said.
Next time out you’ll see Cool Jakey ridden more forward, a pattern he seems to enjoy.
